About Us

Lake Forest Boy Scout Troop 48 camps 9 months of the year and have activities every month. Scouts have the opportunity to go to Makajawan for 1 or 2 weeks in July. Our campouts include canoeing, fishing, whitewater rafting, spelunking, shotgun & rifle shooting, Grant Pilgrimage & pioneering, Cobia submarine sleepover, bicycling, silo climbing, rock climbing, high ropes courses, and beach campouts with and without tents. We have had high adventure trips to Philmont, boundary waters, and W. Virginia. We have a yearly family ski trip. Activities include broom ball, parades, helping with Lake Forest Days and decorating downtown Lake Forest with greens for the holidays and flags on US holidays, maintaining Waukegan road, and other service projects.

Troop 48 strives to run a truly boy-lead troop, guided by numerous experienced past and present Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Chairs, Eagle Scouts, merit badge counselors, etc. This allows the troop to focus on the boys and the program to ensure that each boy enjoys and gets the most out of scouting, whatever that may be for him. The boys are involved in choosing the camping locations and activities and elect their own leaders. Leadership positions are 4 months in length to ensure boys can both advance and participate in time intensive sports when they’re in season. The troop is diverse with respect to the boys’ age, interests, activities, sports and home town, with boys coming from Libertyville, Grayslake, Lake Bluff and Lake Forest. In its over 65 year history, the troop has produced over 80 Eagle Scouts and adds another 4-6 each year, although this year we added 11!
